Alan Wake Review
I'm usually not a huge fan of the horror/suspense thriller shooter genre. Not that there is something wrong with those kinds of games. I just don't like sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to have the pee scared out of me. The constant suspense wears me out. Some people love that stuff. Some people love roller coasters. I'm just not wired that way. That's why, for the longest time, I have shied away from Alan Wake. But I read a review recently that made me want to take a chance, and I'm glad I did.
Backbreaker “Greathouse” Patch Review
Back on July 18, I reviewed Backbreaker, the new football sim from NaturalMotion and 505 games. I sadly gave the game low marks (as did most reviewers) because of a plethora of bugs and other issues. After months of listening to the feedback of fans, the much anticipated "Greathouse" patch has been released, and it makes a world of difference. Here's a rundown of the improvements I have seen in playing a couple dozen games since the patch was released.
NaturalMotion Announces Major Backbreaker Patch
If you read my review of Backbreaker last month you know how much I wanted it to succeed, but how disappointed I was with the myriad of bugs that plagued the game at launch. NaturalMotion has announced a major patch entitled “Greathouse”, which has me excited to dust off this game again. Here’s a rundown of the changes posted on their FaceBook page. No release date has been announced yet. Go back and revisit my original review. I am amazed by how much they have addressed in this patch.
Metro 2033 Review
When I first heard about Metro 2033 I was intrigued. A Russian sci-fi novel about post-apocalyptic life in the Moscow metro system. The game is loosely based on the novel of the same name by Dmitry Glukhovsky which has gained great popularity in Europe and only recently has been translated into English. I played the game and then found a copy of the book at a book seller in the UK. While the game is fun to play, it is also frustrating at times and it takes serious liberties with the author's story.
Backbreaker Review
Powered by the Euphoria physics engine from NaturalMotion, Backbreaker is intended to be a hard-hitting, more realistic alternative to the Madden football franchise. It is a good start for a new IP, but it fails in so many ways. It is filled with flaws and bugs and it leaves out many features that fans have come to expect from a football sim. Despite it’s blemishes and it’s departures from football sim traditions, with a little patience this game is still a lot of fun.
Eddie Riggs Dies and Untimely Death
Destructoid has confirmed news that Double Fine has no plans to produce a sequel to last years fun, but flawed, heavy-metal themed game Brutal Legend. Alas poor Eddie, we knew him well.
Electronic Arts Makes Good
In previous posts I told the long and sordid tale of how inept and frustrating the tech reps at Electronic Arts can be. Well, I am pleased to announce that after a month of back-back-and-forth, EA has offered to make things right. They apologized for the inconvenience, and made me an offer I could not refuse.
Mass Effect 2 DLC: Project Overlord
In the newest DLC for ME2, “Project Overlord,” Commander Sheppard’s team is sent to the planet Aite, to a Cerberus facility that has gone silent. Billed as the biggest DLC pack yet for ME2, the excellent writing, challenging puzzles and combat situations, and a compelling story with multiple endings make this the kind of DLC we hope to see more of.
How I Wasted 10 bucks and 3 hours on Electronic Arts, Part 2
Having thrown my son's report card money down the toilet to get Battlefield 1943 for him, and having wasted 2 hours on tech support so far (with nothing to show for it), I proceeded to log in to my EA account to submit a service request. Here's how EA Support wasted yet another hour of my life and confirmed that I might as well have rolled up my ten bucks and smoked them.
